Glaive signed a deal with Interscope Records in October 2020 to release two EPs, the first of which was cypress grove, released on November 19, 2020, and all dogs go to heaven, released August 6, 2021. More recently, it’s kind of obvious but 100 gecs, brakence, all those “hyperpop” artists that are big now. I was listening to midwest emo music, punk rock and that’s where you can hear the guitars come through. I got more into listening to EDM, which comes through a lot in my music. I grew up listening to loads of Pop music in the 2010s. In a 2020 interview with Lyrical Lemonade entitled “The New Normal: A Conversation w/ Glaive”, when asked about his inspirations, Glaive says: Glaive’s pop/electronic sound didn’t come from nowhere. I feel like hyperpop is not a genre, I’ve made straight-up pop songs, nothing hyper about them, but they’ll still get put in the hyperpop label because I’m friends with all the people that make ‘hyperpop.’” Despite having connections within this community and being placed in community-based hyperpop playlists, glaive himself considers some of his music to still be plain pop, as he states in a New York Times interview: He is one of the newest artists to emerge from the thriving hyperpop community on SoundCloud. Subconsciously, I’m like “I think this is going to be my music name” and it all kind of came together Glaive stated in a interview with Lyrical Lemonade that his name came from a sword in the video game Dark Souls III, which he played much in quarantine when he started his music career: glaive is best known for his colorful hooks, passionate lyrics, and the sugary background instrumentals that accompany him. Ash Gutierrez (born January 20, 2005), better known as glaive, is an artist residing in North Carolina.
